Reliant Park Central Heating & Cooling Facility
MCA of Houston member contractor Way Engineering
performed the $6.8 million HVAC Piping contract for this 20,000 ton
central plant. Completed in September, 2001, this new Central Plant
houses ten
(10) 1,900 ton centrifugal chillers, one (1) 38,000 gpm cooling tower
with five cells, three (3) 1,200 hp hot water boilers, one (1) 300
hp hot water
boiler, primary and secondary variable pumping systems and 3.5 miles
of underground piping.
Harris County Central Plant
MCA of Houston member contractor Way Companies was the Prime Contractor
providing all construction services including the erection of the
building. The central plant, with a capacity of 7200 tons of air
conditioning and
100 million BTU’s of heating capacity, serves eight (8) existing
Harris County buildings and three future buildings. The central plant
is connected to these buildings across nine blocks by utilizing existing
County
utility tunnels for five miles of new piping.
UTMB Biological Safety Laboratory Level 4
MCA of Houston member contractor Gowan, Inc., designed and
installed the BSL-4 lab in Galveston Texas. BSL-4 laboratories are
the highest
level of containment
laboratory developed. All systems, including air-handling units,
exhaust fans, backflow preventers, etc., have 100% redundancy, or
backup, built
in. In addition to the extensive air system, all vents
from the plumbing system are HEPA filtered before exiting the building.
This lab has
brought national attention to the Galveston area and will help UTMB
maintain its position
with
the frontrunners in
the research field.
Reliant Stadium
MCA of Houston member contractors were instrumental in building the mechanical
systems in this world-class arena. Reliant Stadium can accommodate
up to 72,000 spectators during a NFL Super Bowl: the 166 private
suites accommodate 16 to
22 spectators and are the closest to field in the NFL and there are
8,250 Club
seats,
and 44,000 seats located on the side-lines. The portable natural
grass field allows for multiple events during the NFL season. Envisioned
as a world class, state
of the art, multi-purpose
sports and entertainment facility, a translucent fiber-glass fabric
covers a retractable roof, allowing the facility to be used as an
open-air or
as an enclosed.
