Hillsborough County Chiller Plant Project
The Hillsborough County Chiller Plant Project incorporated a new fifteen
hundred ton Trane Centravac to their existing Chiller plan along with 84
Calmac ice storage tanks. The project not only expanded the Chiller Plan
but also insured that the plant will operate at a far lower cost because
much of the load will be shifted to make ice at night when rates are lower.
The new configuration will also allow other organizations to benefit.
The Chiller Plant was tied into the existing Hillsborough County Schools
Administration Building and will supply the flow of water to the two buildings. "It
was a challenge tying the downtown together, however the benefit of saving
energy and money for the County outweighed the scope of the construction
work," says Art Faggion of Poole & Kent, Mechanical Contractors.
The project also included other MCA of Central Florida members: Tampa Bay
Trane, Clark Construction, and TLC Consulting Engineers.
Tampa International Airport / Airside C
After a glitzy grand opening celebration on the evening of April 16th,
2005 with Governor Jeb Bush in attendance, Tampa International Airport’s
brand new Airside “C” opened to accolades from the aviation
industry and Tampa Bay community. The $135 million structure is an effective
blend of aesthetics and functional design which pays tribute to Tampa’s
successful vision of establishing a world-class airport. Supported mechanically
with 2,000 tons of air conditioning equipment and components, the 4 million
annual passengers that come through the airport find themselves in near
perfect indoor comfort. MCA of Central Florida contractors are proud to
have played an integral role in Tampa International’s achievement.
Airside C is the third new terminal expansion by member contractors since
1994.
The last two terminal buildings have been design-build efforts where
the Owner, General Contractor, Architect, Engineers, Prime Mechanical and
Prime Electrical subcontractors have worked together in a fast track effort
to finalize the design while construction was underway. This format was
a tremendous success on the last project and has proven to be equally successful
on the Terminal “C” Expansion. |
